We would like to invite everyone to Krakow’s first screening of Marta Dzido and Piotr Śliwowski’s film entitled “Solidarity According to Women” (Polish: “Solidardność według kobiet”) that will take place at Villa Decius on the 17th of February (Tuesday) at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free! The feature-length documentary entitled “Solidarity According to Women” tells the story of over a dozen brave Polish women, whose wisdom, determination, and involvement in the opposition of the 1980s contributed to the change of the political realities in Poland.

The annual “Laurels for Patrons” ceremony took place at Villa Decius on the 15th of January 2015. The event provides an opportunity to thank patrons, sponsors, partners, the media, volunteers, and friends supporting the Association’s activity during the previous year. The titles of the Villa Decius Patron, as well as Gold and Silver Sponsors were awarded during the meeting.

We would like to invite everyone to an evening with Christmas carols that will take place at Villa Decius on the 25th of January (Sunday) at 5:00 p.m. The evening’s guests include soprano Agnieszka Kołodziejczyk, accompanied on the piano by Aleksandra Hurkała. Andrzej Mróz will present his own carols to the sounds of the guitar.

We present to you the interview with Lawon Barszczeuski ‒ this year’s holder of the scholarship of the City of Krakow as part of the International Cities of Refuge Network (ICORN) programme. The aim of the Network is to protect and promote freedom of speech and to create an international platform of solidarity and cooperation. During 9 years of its activity, ICORN found temporary refuge for several hundred writers, intellectuals, and bloggers.

We are pleased to inform that yet another publication summing up the “SAGA ‒ creativity workshops” project, initiated and carried out by the Villa Decius Association since 2012, is already available. The publication is a collection of texts written by people over 55 who decided to use the potential of their free time to set out on a literary adventure.

Taking to Maidan in Kiev a year ago, the Ukrainians showed that they want to live in a free and democratic country. In a country which is a part of Europe and respects its values. They paid a huge price for that. Now, they are trying to change their country in spite of Crimea’s annexation, the war in Eastern Ukraine, and the tragic condition of the state and its economy caused by the rule of the previous president, as well as the negligence and nonfeasance of the previous government.

The debate entitled “Time for an exchange. Generational change in Poland” will take place on the 16th of December at 9:00 a.m. at the Faculty of Management and Social Communication of the Jagiellonian University. The participants include Wojciech Przybylski ‒ editor-in-chief of “Res Publica Nowa”, Professor Małgorzata Bogunia-Borowska ‒ sociologist, cultural expert, and media expert, and Danuta Glondys, PhD ‒ director of the Villa Decius Association.
