The Villa Decius Association in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Lviv and the Polish-Ukrainian I. J. Paderewski Foundation is organising a concert in Stanisławów (Ivano-Frankivsk), Ukraine, as part of the “Oskar Kolberg’s Heritage” project. The aim of the event is to promote Oskar Kolberg’s works in the area, which was studied by the ethnographer and included in his collection of writings, and to make international audiences aware of how vast an area of the Republic of Poland of the time was documented by the researcher.

On the 19th of November, a meeting with Martina Mair ‒ independent artist and illustrator of children’s books, who has been staying at Villa Decius as a holder of a scholarship co-financed by the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation ‒ took place at Dworek Białoprądnicki. The event was organised as part of the “Tour de littérature” project, initiated and operated by the Villa Decius Association.

On 30 October 2014, the Villa Decius Association launched the Decius’ Ducats programme popularising knowledge of the economy, history, and numismatics.Students from ten primary schools from Małopolska were invited to take part in this unusual “night history class”.The history of money from antiquity to the present, its value and role ‒ these are just a few of the topics the primary school pupils will talk about with the experts.

We encourage you to watch the first film in the “Condemned to Books” series. The main figure of the episode is István Szathmáry ‒ Hungarian journalist, graphic artist, and illustrator. He studied History and Communication at the Pázmány Péter Catholic University in Piliscsaba. Since 2011, he has been writing texts on the subject of culture for the “Magyar Nemzet” daily and the MNO news service. He was one of the finalists of the OTDK competition, which awards academic texts on philosophy and aesthetics.

The announcement ceremony of the 11th edition of the Polish Prize of Sergio Vieira de Mello, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (2002-2003), took place at the International Conference “The Power of the Powerless – Revisited” on October 23, 2014 in Villa Decius in Krakow. This year the Panel of Judges decided to honour Leyla Yunus from Azerbaijan in the Personal Achievement Category and the Amalipe Centre for Interethnic Dialogue and Tolerance in the NGO Cathegory.

October 23rd is the start of a two-day international conference entitled “The Power of the Powerless Revisited” which constitutes a continuation of meetings devoted to the idea of freedom, organized in Villa Decius for a number of years. The conference will be accompanied by a ceremony of presentation, for the eleventh time, of the Polish Prize of Sérgio Vieira de Mello, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (2002 – 2003). Another special event will also be a photography exhibition entitled “Power” presenting chronological development of events in Lviv and Kiev in the last couple of months.
