On July 31, 2014, the viewers collected around Villa Decius had the opportunity of admiring a very interesting high-class performance which was set in the reality of traditional Scottish culture and based on the libretto of the romantic ballet “La Sylphide.” The adaption of the story about great power of love and other human emotions (not always beautiful and crystal-clean) was undertaken by the Comhlan Ensemble of Irish and Scottish Dances from Kraków.
The composition “La Sylphide” was revolutionary in the 19th century ballet – it was the first time that unreal creatures from folk legends, floating above the ground, appeared on stage. At the same time, this was the debut of dancers in pointe shoes, which additionally intensified the effect of ethereality and lightness of forest ghosts. The performance prepared by Comhlan as another innovation: ballet stylizations were replaced with original Scottish dances which were combined with “elf-like” Irish dances in a very interesting manner.
The Comhlan Irish and Scottish Dance Ensemble from Kraków celebrated the 20th anniversary of its existence in 2013. The ensemble’s repertoire includes Scottish ballroom dances, highland and national Scottish dances, as well as Irish solo dances.
